This session explores the relationship between poetry and politics in contemporary Persian literature, from the poetry of Mehdi Akhavan-Sales in Iran to the works of Wasef Bakhtari and the experiences of diasporic poets. The discussion focuses on concepts such as resistance, power, violence, and freedom, examining how poetry transforms into a language of protest, memory, and survival in the face of repression, war, migration, and historical crises. The program also addresses the differences and commonalities in political and linguistic experiences across Iran, Afghanistan, and the Persian-speaking diaspora.

Hosts: Dr Leila Raei - PhD in Persian Literature Dr Meysam Khataminia - PhD in Persian Literature
